W.A. van Buren Ticket

Forty years after the legendary Elfstedentocht of 1986, the story returns to Dokkum. The exclusive W.A. van Buren Banknote is a special commemorative banknote and an ode to the iconic moment when King Willem-Alexander, then still W.A. van Buren, skated the tour through the Frisian landscape.

To mark Keningsdei 2026 and the 40th anniversary, this limited edition banknote has been developed as a unique collector's item in the Netherlands. The design brings past and present together: from the historic tour in 1986 to the symbolic return to Dokkum forty years later.

The W.A. van Buren Banknote was printed and developed in collaboration with Royal Joh. Enschedé from Haarlem, known for printing guilders, euros and other official value documents. The exclusive storage box was made by the specialist printing company Douma from Dokkum and guarantees high-quality craftsmanship and finish.

The entire concept and design was realised by Buro Bend from Dokkum, the design agency that was also previously responsible for the Keningsdei Dokkum logo.
